Objective
This training focuses on skills and practical applications based on a sound management framework. After the training, the participant should be able to:
• Understand the needs for a consistent but flexible business strategy. Know the Balanced scorecard application process to deploy strategy and align organisation.
• Develop strategy map and understand its role as communication tool and in shaping employee’s behaviours.
• Develop a set of performance objectives/indicators based on strategy map using balanced scorecard method.
• Understand how to manage the performance in a BSC organisation.
• Understand the challenges and critical success factors during BSC implementation process.

WHAT BALANCED SCORECARD?
• You are a corporate leader or manager and you know where your business should be going and how it should be doing. However, your employee does not share the way you think, does not do the way you want to. Don‘t they share your vision and do not work toward common objectives? Strategy deployment based on Balanced Scorecard could help you to mitigate this challenge. It also helps you with performance management issues.
• Balanced scorecard is strategy deployment approach that aligns all functional units and people toward a common strategy. This is done by identifying the priority areas of actions, linkages between them and the set of performance objectives/indicators for each of the organisational units. The objectives, then will be used to manage and align organisational performance, evaluate and develop employees. This would shape the behaviour of employees toward the sustainable development of your enterprise.
• Many of multinational companies have applied balanced scorecard. This method has been successfully implemented in Vietnam.

Target Audience
Corporate leaders, top and middle managers – who are leading the company and managing its people and performance. A group of managers/key employees from the same organisation would best facilitate the real case discussions on the class, so that the discussion outcome could be used directly for a that specific organisation.

•  Revisit the enterprise’s strategy : concepts and components.
•  Why companies often fail to implement their strategy? What are the challenges in strategy implementation?
•  Overview of Balanced scorecard

Section 2. Building BSC based management system
•  BSC implementation process, aligning BSC with company performance management system.
•  Benefits of using BSC in Vietnamese companies.
•  4 perspectives of Balance scorecard, strategy mapping and linkages between priority issues in an organisation. 

Section 3: Building BSC based management system
•  BSC objectives and indicators.
•  Most often used performance indicators for each of the four perspectives.
•  How to identify objectives and indicators for supporting functions such as admin, human resources and accounting/finance.

Section 4. Building BSC based management system (cont.)
•  Characteristics of a good Balanced Scorecard 
•  BSC based management by objectives for departments and functional units.

Section 5. Organisational change when applying BSC
•  Performance management and appraisal for individual employees .
•  Critical success factors and challenges during BSC implementation.
•  Culture change and skills needed for managers in organisations that apply Balanced Scorecard.

Trainer's Profile

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nam Phuong
OCD Senior Consultant
Ms Nguyen Thi Nam Phuong, OCD Senior Consultant in the area of Organizational Development, Human Resource Management, Training Management, Project Management and Management Information Systems. She is also an expert in the field of Customer Service skills, Management and Leadership skills, Consulting and Teamwork skills. Phuong has delivered numerous training programs in these areas for clients such as the Office of the Government, Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ministry of Fisheries, Vietnam Textile and Garment Corporation (Vinatex), Vietnam Postal Services (VPS), member-companies of FPT Corporation, PVFC, Securities companies (VNDirect, Tan Viet and Gateway Securities), among others. In the past few years, Phuong has also been involved in major consultancy assignments in the areas of Strategic Human Resources Management, Strategy Development and Planning, Project Design, Organizational Analysis for client organizations including Comprehensive Capacity Building Program for ODA Management (Ministry of Planning and Investment), Strengthening the Capacity of Water Sector Research and Planning Institutes (a Danida-funded sector program), the Fisheries Sector Support Program, Chingfon Cement Corporation, Noi Bai International Airport Ground Service (NIAGS), FPT Corporation, to name a few.

Ms Phuong graduated from Odessa State University (Ukraine) and holds a Master of Commerce degree with double concentration on Human Resources Management (HRM) and Management Information Systems (MIS) from the University of New South Wales (Sydney, Australia).
